If you’ve spent any time online lately, you’ve probably noticed the noise. Everyone is suddenly selling ebooks, guides, templates, Notion dashboards, or “systems,” and they all swear this is the easiest money on the internet right now.
The problem is that once you decide you want to try it, the clarity disappears almost immediately. You’re left staring at a blank document, unsure what you’re supposed to create or why anyone would want it.
Most articles skip the boring but practical question: where does your first digital product actually come from?
Not the tenth one you build after momentum, but the very first thing you finish and put out into the world.
Why “Just Pick a Niche” Is Terrible Advice
You’ve probably been told to “pick a niche” as if it’s a personality trait you can select from a dropdown menu. Fitness, crypto, AI, productivity, dating, money — take your pick and start posting.
That advice sounds simple, but it ignores something fundamental. Your first product doesn’t come from trends you chase; it comes from who you already are online and how people already perceive you.
People don’t buy digital products from strangers who appear out of nowhere with a polished offer. They buy from people whose perspective already makes sense to them, even if the product itself is simple.
The Easiest Starting Point (That Nobody Mentions)
The easiest way to start isn’t brainstorming in isolation or forcing ideas that don’t fit. It’s using AI to reflect your existing positioning back to you with more clarity.
I would start by asking ChatGPT or Claude something very specific. Not “what’s a good niche,” but what kind of niche already makes sense based on how you show up.
You can literally ask:
“Based on my online presence [insert link to your social profile], interests, experiences, and the way I talk about things, what types of digital products would people expect me to create?”
This reframes the problem entirely. Instead of forcing yourself into a box, you’re clarifying the box you’re already standing in.
AI Isn’t Here to Replace You — It’s Here to Speed You Up
This is where a lot of people get it wrong. They either try to write everything manually and burn out, or they let AI do everything and end up with a bland, generic product.
The middle ground is where the leverage actually lives. AI should assist your thinking, not replace it.
What I do is ask AI to generate an outline for a guide or ebook based on a specific problem I want to solve. Then I write the rough structure of each section myself, focusing on ideas rather than polish.
Once those ideas exist, I feed them back into AI and ask it to expand, clean up, and structure the writing in my tone. At that point, AI is just doing what I would do anyway — only faster and with less friction.
You Don’t Need Fancy Tools to Finish Your First Product
This part surprises people because it’s almost disappointingly simple. Once the content is done, you export it as a PDF.
That’s genuinely it. No app, no course platform, no complicated setup required.
You upload the PDF to Gumroad, write a short description, set a price, and your product is live. At that point, you officially have a digital product for sale.
The hardest part was never the tech. It was deciding to start and actually finish something.
Why Most People Never Finish
Most people stall because they think their first product has to be impressive or comprehensive. It doesn’t.
Your first digital product is allowed to be small, specific, and imperfect. Its real job is to teach you how the process works, not to define your entire brand.
Once you’ve published one product, everything else becomes easier. Ideas multiply, confidence builds, and the fog that existed before starts to clear.
What I Recommend If You’re Stuck Right Now
If you’re feeling lost, you don’t need motivation — you need structure. That’s why I put together a free guide that walks through the starting process step by step, without hype or vague promises.
If you want to move faster, there’s also a full digital product shortcut that covers creation, growth, and marketing in a grounded way. And if you want the bigger picture — income systems and long-term leverage — that’s where the Digital Product Shortcut fits naturally.
You don’t need all of it today. You just need a first step that actually makes sense.
If digital products feel confusing right now, that’s normal. Clarity doesn’t come from consuming more content — it comes from building something real and seeing how it works.

How to Quit Your Job (Without Losing Yourself in the Process)
I didn’t quit my finance job because I couldn’t handle pressure. I quit because the call centre slowly turned me into someone I didn’t recognise. Scripts, rigid metrics, constant monitoring — it wasn’t the customers, it was the company.
This isn’t a motivational post. It’s what happens when you stay too long in the wrong…
