Which Social Platform Actually Helps You Sell Products, Make Money, and Grow Your Digital Brand
If you’re a creator trying to sell anything online, you’ve probably convinced yourself that this platform is the one that’s finally going to save you. Spoiler: it won’t.
Some platforms waste your time more politely than others, but both are massive energy sinks if you don’t have a plan.
Threads: Free Reach, Mostly Rage, Tiny ROI
Threads is nuts.
You can post a half-formed thought about money, art, or side hustles, and suddenly 30,000 people see it. No followers needed. No algorithmic gymnastics.
For creators, it feels like magic at first. But half the engagement comes from people trained by the algorithm to argue, complain, or just scream into the void. They don’t want your product – they want to fight.
Threads is perfect for attention.
Terrible for buyers.
X: The Endless Grind for a Sliver of Cash
X is the opposite.
You post something brilliant and the algorithm says: “Cool. Now post 10 more things, reply to verified accounts, and never stop.”
To grow here, you have to be glued to notifications, comment like a social media intern, and pretend that every reply is fun. It’s exhausting.
On the plus side, X is full of people who actually buy stuff – courses, art, subscriptions, digital products. Threads’ users might follow you, but X users can spend.
Monetisation: The Ugly Truth
X’s monetisation program? A clown show with terrible odds. Vague rules. Payouts that barely cover coffee. You qualify, grind, and still earn nothing if shadow rules decide otherwise. Replies aren’t conversations – they’re financial labor disguised as engagement.
Threads is more exclusive and clearly designed for big accounts. At least it’s straightforward: big audience, big payout. No chasing crumbs for hours on end.
Here’s What I Actually Do
Rather than wasting hours a day on social media, I’ve chosen a different route:
• Work more in my actual job.
• Earn more money to reinvest.
• Build a marketing budget I can control with tools like Zeely.ai.
Social media gets boring fast for me. I’d rather put my energy into campaigns and ads that actually move the needle than scroll for dopamine.
The Verdict
Threads is for reach and testing ideas.
X is for selling – but it’s a grind you need stamina for.
If you want real results, don’t live on either platform. Spend time building systems, running ads, and investing in your marketing. Social media should amplify your business – not be your business.
Final Reality Check
Both platforms are free because you are the product. Attention is cheap. Your time isn’t.
Use them, but don’t rely on them. Build something real, fund it wisely, and let the algorithms feed off someone else.

How to Quit Your Job (Without Losing Yourself in the Process)
I didn’t quit my finance job because I couldn’t handle pressure. I quit because the call centre slowly turned me into someone I didn’t recognise. Scripts, rigid metrics, constant monitoring — it wasn’t the customers, it was the company.
This isn’t a motivational post. It’s what happens when you stay too long in the wrong…
